National Assembly lawmaker decamps to ruling APC

A member of the House of Representatives from Herman Hembe from Benue State has dumped the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that Mr Hembe, who represents Vandeikiya/Konshisha federal constituency of Benue State made his decision known in a letter read on the floor of the house by the Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase, during plenary on Tuesday.

Kicking against his defection, the minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu, described Hembe’s defection as illegal and urged the Deputy Speaker to declare his seat vacant, a request that was declined.

Elumelu said “by the grace of God, I am the Minority Leader of this House. I am not aware that there is a crisis in APGA and so, what he has done is illegal and the Speaker should declare his seat.”

However, the Deputy Speaker in his ruling, said the fact that Elumelu is not aware of any crisis in APGA is not enough to say there was no crisis in the party.

He also said that the crisis in APGA in Anambra state which is the base of the party is enough reason for anybody to defect.
