American President Donald Trump has claimed that the recent military operation in Venezuela that led to the arrest of President Nicolas Maduro demonstrates that the United States possesses “the most powerful, most lethal and most sophisticated” military in the world.
Trump stated this on Tuesday at the House Republican Party (GOP) members’ retreat, warning that no country could challenge the United States militarily.
“It’s the most fearsome military on planet Earth, and it’s not even close. I’ve been saying it for a long time. Nobody can take us,” Trump said.
The comments followed a US military operation carried out on Saturday, during which American forces bombed targets in Venezuela before capturing Maduro and flying him to New York.
The Venezuelan leader is now facing drug trafficking and weapons charges in the United States.
Describing the operation, Trump said the attack caught Venezuelan authorities off guard after power was allegedly cut across much of the country.
“They knew we were coming. The electricity for almost the entire country was turned off. That’s when they knew there was a problem. There was no electricity. So we sort of got them a little by surprise, but it was brilliant — brilliant tactically. It was an incredible thing.”
