Military Officer that confronted FCT Minister Wike should be reprimanded detained

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has condemned the recent confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and some military officers over a disputed plot of land in Abuja, describing the incident as an affront to civil authority.

The altercation occurred on Tuesday in the Gaduwa District of Abuja, where Lt. Yerima, a senior naval officer reportedly acting on the instructions of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Auwal Zubairu Gambo (rtd), blocked the minister and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from accessing the site.

The standoff quickly escalated into a heated exchange between Wike and the officers.

Reacting to the development in a video message posted on his Facebook page, Asari Dokubo criticised the conduct of the military personnel, insisting that such behaviour violated the chain of command and undermined the authority of the FCT Minister.

“I’m not taking sides with Wike; I’m taking sides with the law, the rule, and the convention,” he said.

“What happened yesterday in any sane society that person would be reprimanded and detained.”

Asari maintained that the officer involved should face disciplinary measures, including a court-martial, for insubordination and misconduct.

“The confrontation between the military man and the Minister of the FCT is uncalled for,” he added.

“The Minister is the governor of the FCT and constitutionally the chief security officer of the city, next only to the President. That position must be respected.”
