Meet the celebrated Police officer who rejected $200, 000 bribe in armed robbery case

Daniel Amah, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), has accepted Islam.
He is well-known for turning down a $200,000 bribe in a well-known armed robbery case. Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, hosted the conversion in a private ceremony at his palace on Tuesday.
Amah was formally accepted into the Islamic faith and given the name “Muhammad” during the private ceremony.
The Emir, who is renowned for his insight and direction, urged Amah to learn more about Islam by stressing the significance of upholding the five pillars of the religion: faith in Allah, daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, the Mecca pilgrimage, and almsgiving (Zakat).
Amah’s conversion marks another chapter in his remarkable story.
He gained national attention in April 2022 when, as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, he rejected a substantial bribe from armed robbery suspects.
The criminals, who had stolen over ₦300 million in a robbery targeting a Bureau De Change operator, offered Amah $200,000 to cover up their crime. His unwavering commitment to justice earned him widespread praise.
In recognition of his integrity, the Police Service Commission promoted Amah from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police on November 10, 2022.
His actions were also honored by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who presented him with the prestigious 2022 Public Service Integrity Award. The award was recommended by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, who lauded Amah’s conduct as a model of public service ethics.
Amah’s conversion and his history of standing firm against corruption highlight his commitment to both personal and professional integrity, making him a figure of national admiration.
