Presidency speaks as report of INEC Chairman’s sack by Tinubu spreads

The presidency has swiftly described as “fake news” the rumors circulating on social media about the replacement of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu.

Amid widespread online speculation, claims surfaced suggesting that President Bola Tinubu had removed Yakubu from his position.

However, O’tega Ogra, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, promptly debunked the rumors, stating that there was no truth to the story.

In a statement, Ogra reassured the public that the INEC Chairman’s position remained unchanged and that the circulating reports were completely baseless.

“Disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman,” he said in a brief statement.

He added, “Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or the any other official source.”
