Killers of five Soldiers will not go unpunished — Commissioner of Police CP

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, has assured that justice will prevail concerning the perpetrators of the heinous killing of soldiers at Obikabia junction, Ogbor Hill, Aba.

Unknown gunmen attacked a military checkpoint at Obikabia junction on Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of five soldiers and the destruction of two patrol vans and their checkpoint.

Speaking to journalists after an extended meeting of the state security council and the newly inaugurated members of the Abia Security Advisory Council, Onwuemelie described the killings as unfortunate and condemnable.

He said, “The point is that it is a very unfortunate incident, and it is highly condemnable and, indeed, cowardly.

“All I can tell you is that the security agencies, the government of Abia State, and all well-meaning Nigerians feel very bad about what happened, and everything that needs to be done will be done to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. And even as it happens, the course of the law will take place.”

“Every now and then, there is no society that is completely immune from security breaches, even the most developed climes. So, no matter what happens, we must go about our business, and we must also continue to improve on what we have put in place to ensure that things don’t get out of hand.”

The CP revealed that the council will persist in its dialogue with stakeholders and devise strategies to bolster the capabilities of different security agencies to fulfill their duties effectively.

Additionally, Commander Macdonald Uba (rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on security matters, expressed his distress over the manner in which the soldiers were killed and guaranteed that the culprits would face justice.
