Nurse owns up, admits using burning hot iron to discipline 13-year-old Househelp

An Anambra State nurse, Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe, has admitted to burning her 13-year-old househelp with a hot pressing iron, claiming she did it as a form of discipline.

Nzekwe, who is 38-yaer-old, from Ezinifite in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, confessed to using the iron after accusing the boy of stealing her money.

The shocking incident came to light when officials from the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, led by Commissioner Ify Obinabo, arrested Nzekwe.

During her confession, Nzekwe explained that she had placed the iron on a stove to heat it and then used it to burn the boy’s back because he refused to admit to the theft.

She also justified her actions by stating that she had undergone surgery and returned home only to find her money missing.

“I didn’t plug the iron into electricity,” she said, “I just heated it on the stove to discipline him.”

Further investigation revealed that the boy, who is her nephew, had been subjected to other forms of abuse as well.

Ministry officials reported that Nzekwe often locked him up without food for extended periods.

Commissioner Obinabo condemned the nurse’s actions, vowing that Nzekwe would face legal consequences.

She emphasised that such cruelty would not be tolerated under the leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

Following her arrest, Nzekwe was handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, as the state government vowed to ensure justice is served in this disturbing case.
