CP petitioned as Police Inspector is seen in viral video allegedly assaulting eletric power staff with knife
A middle-aged police officer who was captured in a viral video assaulting a staff member of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) has been identified and taken into custody.
The officer in question, Inspector Aminu Yahaya Bidda, who is stationed at the Tudun Wada Police Station in the Kaduna metropolis, was prominently featured in the footage.
In the video, he is seen brandishing a knife and making aggressive attempts to stab other KAEDCO officials.
The incident was formally reported to the Kaduna State Police Command through a detailed petition submitted to the police commissioner by KAEDCO.
The petition demanded Inspector Bidda’s immediate arrest, a comprehensive investigation into his conduct, and his prosecution on charges including assault, attempted murder, harassment, and intimidation of KAEDCO personnel.
KAEDCO has requested that the case be referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.
Additionally, the company has urged the police commissioner to take measures to protect its staff members, allowing them to carry out their responsibilities without fear of interference or violence.
In an official statement, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, the Head of Corporate Communications at KAEDCO, denounced the officer’s behavior as both illegal and a serious threat to the delicate peace within the state.
Abdullahi highlighted that Inspector Bidda’s actions were a gross violation of both legal standards and police conduct guidelines.
The statement affirmed the company’s commitment to pursuing administrative and legal actions against the officer.
The statement further described the incident in detail: Inspector Bidda had “viciously attacked” KAEDCO employees who were conducting a routine inspection of his prepaid meter at his residence on Rimaye Road, Hayin Danmani.
Investigations have revealed that the officer had only utilized electricity on two occasions this year.
Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation escalated significantly when the officer, clearly agitated, wielded a knife and repeatedly attempted to stab the electricity worker.
Fortunately, the worker managed to narrowly avoid injury. However, a passerby who intervened in an attempt to deescalate the situation suffered a leg injury.
