JUST IN; Most wanted hired killer in Lagos arrested by Police Tactical Squad

The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious hired killer and cult leader, Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso, in a significant breakthrough in its fight against violent crime in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Command, Akinwande, aged 44, was apprehended on June 20, 2025, by Tactical Squad operatives during a meticulously coordinated special operation.

He was tracked down to his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, following years of eluding capture.

Described as the most wanted criminal in Lagos in recent times, Akinwande is alleged to be the mastermind behind multiple killings, armed robberies, kidnappings, and cult-related violence, particularly in the Mushin area.

His reign of terror reportedly spanned from 2009 to 2024, causing widespread fear and disrupting public safety.

The police revealed that a raid on his residence in Mushin led to the recovery of a cache of weapons and incriminating items used in his criminal operations. Recovered exhibits include: Two AK-47 rifles, One K2 assault rifle, One Red Ryder rifle, Three pump action rifles, Two locally made single-barrel pistols, Five magazines, Fifty-seven live cartridges, Seventy rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, Twenty-seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, One expended 5.56mm round, One dagger, Three walkie-talkies, Nine international passports belonging to different individuals

Four families have already identified Akinwande as the suspect responsible for the deaths of their children and relatives.

In response, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to lead a team of specially selected detectives in widening the investigation and apprehending all accomplices linked to Akinwande’s network.

CP Jimoh praised the courage and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Lagos.

He urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police by sharing timely and useful information that could aid crime-fighting efforts.

Wasiu Akinwande is currently in custody under tight security and is expected to face prosecution for his alleged crimes.
