JUST IN; Hoodlumns loot properties worth millions of naira, set it on fire as cover up

Unknown hoodlums on Saturday, looted about 15 shops at Agbeni Ologede market in Ibadan, Oyo State capital before setting them ablaze.

CRIMECHANNELS gathered that the incident which had goods worth millions of naira burnt occurred at about 6 am in the morning. The incident was said to have caused pandemonium at the market and its environment as a result of exchange of fire between the personnel of Operation burst and the hoodlums.

The Deputy Director of Oyo State Fire Service, Moshood Adewuyi, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that trucks taken to the scene to put out the fire were attacked by the hoodlums, while the firefighters on assignment were thrown stones at.

According to unconfirmed sources, the shops were razed to cover up the lootings perpetrated by the yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.


The sources noted that the hoodlums suspected to be from the area arrived around 5am while the operation lasted for one hour.

He noted that the act was perpetrated by the hoodlums under the pretense of reprisal attack on a rival cult group, in the area.

He added that the timely intervention of the officers and men of the operation burst later brought normalcy to the area, noting that only 10 shops were identified to have been razed while others were burnt beyond recognition.

A source hinted that hoodlumns in the area had organised themselves and looted the properties but set it on fire to look like it was fire incident

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the arson by the Oyo state police command.
