Over 30 Fighters volunteer for Suicide missions as ISWAP effects major Cabinet reshuffle

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly undergone a major reshuffling of its leadership, according to insights shared on Saturday by counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama.

Makama, a renowned specialist on Lake Chad Basin insurgencies, revealed that over 30 ISWAP fighters have volunteered to become suicide bombers, a development believed to be linked to the recent uptick in attacks on military targets across the region.

Citing intelligence sources, Makama disclosed that the position of overall commander for the Southern Lake Chad Basin Region Authority (LCRBA) became vacant following the recent elimination of Abu Usman, also known as Usman Russia, who previously held the role of Amirul Fiya (Chief Military Commander) for the region.

As a result, ISWAP has appointed Abu Saleh, a significant figure within the group, to replace him.

Saleh, formerly stationed in Tumbun Gini, Abadam Local Government Area, had previously served as a Kheed in the same area before rising to his new leadership position.

This leadership change comes at a time when ISWAP has intensified its operations, indicating a possible strategic shift within the group.
