JUST IN; Five Police officers arrested, detained for unprofessional conduct

Five police officers assigned to Zone 6 Police Headquarters in Cross River are currently under arrest for reportedly kidnapping and unlawfully extorting 3 million naira from their victim.

According to reports, the incident occurred while the officers were on patrol along the Ikom-Calabar highway.

The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), Nelson Okpabi, issued a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the officers are accused of engaging in corrupt practices and unprofessional behavior.

The press release, highlighted the displeasure of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters in Calabar, Jonathan Towuru, regarding the alleged misconduct.


AIG Towuru condemned the actions of the officers involved in the abduction and extortion of 3 million naira from an individual, emphasizing the need for adherence to professionalism within the police force.

“The AIG has ordered a high-powered investigation into the matter to uncover the facts behind the allegations for an informed disciplinary measure to be taken.

“Recall that Police Officers attached to the Zone, while on patrol along Ikom-Calabar highway, were alleged to have indulged in corrupt practices and unprofessional conduct.

“The five Officers have been taken into custody and investigation commenced.

“The outcome of the investigation and disciplinary measures including orderly trial and possible prosecution would be made known to the public in due course.”
