JUST IN; Federal Govt announces closure of Schools amid rising security concerns
The Federal Government has directed the immediate closure of 41 Federal Unity Colleges nationwide, citing escalating security threats in several regions.
The order, issued in a circular dated November 21, 2025, by the Federal Ministry of Education and endorsed by the Minister of Education, comes in response to “recent security challenges” and the need to prevent potential attacks on the schools.
Principals of the affected institutions have been instructed to implement the shutdown without delay, with full adherence required across all impacted states. The 41 schools are located across the North-West, North-East, North-Central zones, and parts of the South.
Hajia Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education, signed the circular on behalf of the Minister, stressing the government’s commitment to protecting both students and staff.
The statement read: “Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) with immediate effect. Principals of affected Colleges are to ensure strict compliance.”
