Police arrest Teenage Boy for alleged murder of his Guardian

The Nigeria Police Force in Kwara State has arrested a 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, for allegedly killing his aunt and guardian in Ilorin, the state capital.

The Kwara State Police Command said the teenager was taken into custody following the death of a woman identified as Akanbi A., who had adopted and raised him.

The state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Ilorin.

According to him, the police were alerted after the victim was found lying in a pool of blood inside her residence.

“On January 14, 2026, at about 2030hrs, a distress report was received concerning the discovery of one Akanbi A (F) in a pool of blood at her residence.

“Police operatives responded immediately and commenced a discreet investigation,” the commissioner said.

Preliminary investigations, the police said, indicated that the suspect, who lived with the deceased, allegedly hid behind a door and attacked her while she was bathing.

“Findings revealed that the suspect, who was residing with the deceased, allegedly concealed himself behind a door and attacked her while she was bathing using household items,” he said.

Police further disclosed that several items believed to have been used during the attack were recovered as exhibits.
“Items recovered from the suspect include a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick and kitchen knives,” Ojo said.

The commissioner added that the teenager allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation and attributed his actions to resentment toward the deceased.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that the act was motivated by resentment and disclosed that previous attempts to poison the deceased had failed,” the commissioner stated.

Ojo explained that after allegedly carrying out the attack, the suspect changed his clothes and left the house under the guise of running an errand.

“After committing the offence, he changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand. He later contacted the deceased’s husband, who subsequently discovered her lifeless body,” he said.

The police commissioner confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
