JUST IN; AIG Odumosu reacts to alleged news of appointment as EFCC Chairman

Reports have emerged that Hakeem Odumosu, retired assistant inspector general of police (AIG), felt embarrassed by the rumour on social media that he has been appointed as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to The Cable, a closed source to the retired AIG said he was embarrassed as there is no iota of truth in the viral rumour.

It will be recalled that the social media was saturated with reports on Tuesday that the former Lagos State police commissioner had been appointed, but none of the viral posts had an attribution.

Likewise, the presidency did not issue any statement to make the announcement, as it usually does.

In view of this, the source said: “Odumosu was so embarrassed he had to be making calls to all the key people he knew to confirm if it was true but there was no confirmation from any one.”

He stressed that Odumosu himself on Tuesday morning sent a text message to his friends and associates debunking the report.

“Good Morning everyone,” he wrote.

“I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported ‘EFCC Appointment’. I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue.

“This information must have emanated from Mischief Makers and should be totally disregarded.”
