President of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, has given assurance to wives of policemen who have lost their lives and the less privileged to continue providing support towards creating opportunities for them to overcome their challenges.

Mrs Egbetokun gave the assurance while speaking at an enlarged empowerment programme in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

The IGP’s wife during the visit, which is her first visit to the State’s police command, distributed several intervention materials such as grinding machines, hair dressing machines, sewing machines and bags of rice.

She stated that the intervention materials were not only to provide financial assistance, but the skill for self-reliance to secure better future for the families of late police personnel.

She mentioned that the vision behind the empowerment programme is meeting the heart desires of the fallen heroes who left their families behind to protect the nation.

She also stressed that the intervention was meant to create windows for the less privileged to become self-reliant.

Also speaking at the event, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Augustina Ogbodo, described the event as timely.

He stressed that the empowerment goes a long way to depict the level of compassion, sympathy and commitment the police hierarchy have for the widows.
