IGP Egbetokun in Strategic Conference with AIGs, CPs unveils Crime score card
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, today convened a high-level strategic conference with senior police officers, including Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs), at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The meeting, held as the Nigeria Police Force enters the final quarter of the year, focused on reviewing recent operations, strengthening internal strategies, and setting new priorities for the months ahead.
According to a statement by the Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the IGP highlighted recent improvements in command responsiveness, tactical deployments, and overall leadership visibility, attributing these gains to outcomes from the last strategic session in July.
“Policing in Nigeria today involves confronting complex and evolving security threats,” Egbetokun stated.
He urged officers to adopt intelligence-led approaches, enhance coordination across units, and ensure leadership is consistently visible in operational areas.
Presenting the Force’s performance from July 31 to September 23, 2025, the IGP disclosed that police operatives across the country arrested 4,383 suspects linked to various serious crimes.
These include 481 suspects for armed robbery, 260 for kidnapping, 371 for murder or culpable homicide, 161 for unlawful possession of firearms, 322 for rape, 375 suspected cultists, and 2,413 others for various offences.
During the same period, police recovered 716 firearms, over 21,000 rounds of ammunition, 212 vehicles, and successfully rescued 1,138 kidnapped victims.
As the year winds down, particularly with the onset of the “Ember Months” often associated with increased criminal activity, the IGP directed zonal and state commands to scale up visibility policing, strengthen community engagement, and intensify patrols across major highways, rural roads, and forested areas.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment from all senior officers to enhance their operational plans for the rest of 2025.
They pledged to maintain a robust security presence, ensure public safety, and sustain momentum in crime prevention and law enforcement efforts nationwide.
