IGP revealed what triggered #EndSARS Protests; gives reasons for Police mass promotion
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Thursday, attributed the wide spread carnage that erupted during the #ENDSARS protest to fake news.
CRIMECHANNELS learnt that the Police Chief made this disclosure in Akure, Ondo’s state capital, during his visit to the state Police Command.
The IGP, who was in the state to boost the morale of Police operatives in the Command maintained that those behind the protest were armed with the sinister motive to destabilize the Nigerian government.
While noting that there are bad cops who are corrupt in the system, he explained that there were many good ones who day in and day out, work very hard to make sure that the image of the Police isn’t painted in a bad light.
The IGP also pleaded with the police operatives to return to work. He advised the rank and file of the command to always be at alert to curb crimes and defend public property against destruction, urging them to put the #ENDSARS incidents behind them.
He also disclosed that President Mohammedu Buhari had approved salary increment for all policemen in the country. He also said that the recent mass promotion of junior officers was to encourage them to do their job diligently and effectively.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, expressed his gratitude to the Police Chief for the visit and assured that men of the state command will not relent in discharging their constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and property.
