I have survived over 50 Boko Haram attacks – Borno Governor, Zulum opens up

The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum on Tuesday, Aug. 24, revealed that he has been attacked more than 50 times by Boko Haram terrorists, he added that he survived all of them.

Zulum made the disclosure in an interactive session with State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at the session, the Governor lamented the spate of insecurity in Borno State. He said many innocent persons have been killed on a daily basis.

He revealed that over 100,000 Borno indigenes have been killed in the 12-year-old insurgency in the North East.

“About 2,600 insurgents have surrendered so far to the Nigeria Military, they consist of women, men and children, ” he said.


He stressed that some of the Boko Haram fighters that surrenders were innocent. According to him, there were some that was forced into joining the terrorists group. He said some were children, who had no minds of their own.

Speaking on the outcry from many quarters as to why repentant Boko Haram fighters were not prosecuted by the Nigeria Government, Zulum said he did not see any reason why those who surrendered should be rejected.

According to him, he discussed the surrendering of the ex fighters with the President. He, however, said that the Federal Government will decide what it wants to do, he however, ruled out the prosecution of the repentant fighters.
