The police have confirmed that no ransom was paid for the release of the 20 medical students who were abducted in Benue.

In a statement, Force Police Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi refuted claims circulating on social media, asserting, “Contrary to some tweets and unverified reports suggesting that a ransom was paid, no money was exchanged for their release. The students were rescued through a strategic and professional operation.”

The students were kidnapped on August 15 and were released on August 23.

Details about the rescue operation remain sparse, including whether any of the kidnappers were apprehended or killed.

A colleague of the students had previously told The Nation that a ransom of N50 million was demanded by the abductors.
