House Speaker furious as Suspended Lawmakers hold parallel sitting, threaten Gov

The Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Bilyaminu Isma’il Moriki, has denounced a parallel sitting convened by some suspended lawmakers, describing it as illegal, invalid, and in direct violation of a standing court order.

Speaking to journalists in Gusau on Thursday, Moriki responded to the actions of the suspended members, including one whose seat had been officially declared vacant.

He maintained that no legitimate legislative session was held outside the recognized House in Gusau, the state capital.

He emphasized that the Assembly has only one constitutionally recognized leadership and location, warning that the actions of the suspended members—who went ahead with a separate session despite a court order to maintain the status quo—were a clear affront to the rule of law.

The Speaker also condemned the participation of the former lawmaker whose seat had been vacated, insisting that the individual had no legal right to identify as a member of the House following his removal.

Reports indicate that ten suspended members convened the unauthorised sitting, during which they issued an ultimatum to Governor Dauda Lawal, demanding an end to the state’s security crisis within a month or face impeachment proceedings.
