Death tolls in Azare town now 173

The number of deaths of the people of Azare in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi state seems to be multiplying daily, as fresh figure of 173 death was given by the Secretary of the graveyard on Wednesday.

According to the secretary, Abdullahi Othman Imam, the real figure disputed the 301 figure stated by the media recently. However, the authentic figure of deaths seems to be unusually high and it is causing panic amongst residents.

According to a source that studied the pattern of the mysterious deaths in Azare, it was discovered that the elderly persons, from 60 years above are the most hit.

According to statistics released by Othman Imam, on May 10th, nine people died in Azare, seven of which were aged above 60.

The next day, out of four recorded deaths, two were above 60 years, while of the 10 who died between May 12th and 13th, five were above 60-years-old.

“It is very clear that there have been rampant cases of mysterious deaths, especially in the last 20 days in Azare,” a resident, Ahmed Alhaji Azare, lamented in Azare.

He disclosed that something similar had happened seven years ago, during the period of Ramadan as well, but it is highly unusual this time around.

“It was precisely during the same fasting (Ramadan) period because the season was very hot, but it was not as high as this one,” Azare, a lecturer with Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare said.

However, investigations reveals that no deaths have been recorded by any community outside Azare in the last 21 days.

Meanwhile, the state continues to be in lockdown in order to curtail the spread of the ravaging coronavirus, and residents have appealed to the government to investigate the unusual deaths that is occuring in Azare.
