Protest in Lagos over killing of female Lawyer by Police officer
Lawyers in Lagos State marched out in protest today to demonstrate their anger over the killing of their female colleague, OmoBolanle Raheem, by a power-drunk policeman.
According to reports, the female barrister and real estate consultant was shot dead under a Bridge at Ajah area of the state, while returning from a Christmas Day service with her family.
And while protesting over her death, lawyers from the Lagos branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, including the leaders of Eti Osa Lawyers Forum had a brief meeting with the DPO of Ajiwe Police station in Ajah, Adolf Ogwu, where the officers are stationed.
The aggrieved lawyers were informed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti and is currently before the Commissioner of Police.
While confirming the incident, the state police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the ASP, (name withheld) has been arrested along with two other police officers and that they have been taken into custody.
The vice chairperson of the NBA lagos branch who led the delegation, Abiye Tam George, in her response called for transparency in prosecuting the case.
The lawyers are now proceeding to the home of their deceased colleague to pay a condolence visit.
Eyewitnesses said that the officer was visibly drunk and all entreaties from his colleagues to allow the lady’s husband who was driving the car to go proved abortive.
While the lady’s husband was looking for a space to park his car, the officer shot at the vehicle and the bullet hit the deceased in her chest and she reportedly died on the spot.
The spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin already confirmed the incident, saying justice will prevail.
