Governor queations Military over withdrawal of Soldiers 45mins before attack
Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has called on military authorities to explain why troops stationed at Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, were withdrawn shortly before dozens of schoolgirls were abducted in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
Governor Idris made the demand on Thursday while receiving a solidarity visit from Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero.
The governor expressed being “deeply troubled” that security personnel reportedly pulled out of the school despite prior intelligence alerts provided by the state government. According to Idris, soldiers left the premises around 3 a.m., and the attackers struck less than 45 minutes later.
“We provided intelligence reports. We alerted them. So, who gave the order for troops to withdraw at that critical hour?” Idris questioned, urging a full military investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He noted that the troop withdrawal contradicted earlier assurances of strengthened protection for schools in border communities, which have frequently been targeted by bandits.
Ajaero, in his remarks, expressed solidarity with the state and the families of the abducted students, stressing the need for federal security agencies to ensure the safe return of the girls.
