Governor mourns, laments killing of soldiers, Policemen by gunmen in ambush attack
Governor Nasir Idris has expressed shock over the killing of security personnel following an ambush in Kebbi State that claimed multiple lives.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday night in Giro Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, reportedly left nine soldiers and one police officer dead, alongside multiple civilians.
Two military gun trucks were also said to have been burnt during the incident.
The governor confirmed the development on Wednesday after visiting victims at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where he inspected the mortuary and the Accident and Emergency unit.
Describing the incident as tragic, Idris said the victims were among those dedicated to safeguarding lives and property in the state.
“This is a sad incident. These are the soldiers who protect the lives of Kebbi residents, yet they found themselves in this situation,” he said.
He assured that the state government would take responsibility for the medical treatment of those injured and provide support to families of the fallen security personnel.
The governor also toured affected sections of the hospital before proceeding for an on-the-spot assessment of the attack location.
While details of the incident remain sketchy, reports suggest the troops may have been ambushed during an ongoing operation in the area.
