Girl who killed man who attempted to rape her charged with murder
A 16-year old girl whose name was not disclosed was charged to court for murder on Tuesday for stabbing to death a 51-year old who attempted to rape her.
The incident happened at Nwadolu Street, Aboru, Lagos at the man’s place.
The deceased, Babatunde Ishola, who is a friend of the girl’s father works as a guard at a school in the community and was alleged of attempting to rape the girl before she stabbed him.
The State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) arraigned the teenager, a Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3 pupil, before Mrs A. Adedayo of the Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
All plea made by the girl was not taken and the police’s application for remanding the defendant at the Lagos State Correctional Home for Girls, Idia Araba was accepted.
Chief Magistrate Adedayo ordered the police to send a duplicate copy of the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and adjourned till April 27 for DPP’s advice.
Director Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender OPD did not oppose the proceedings but promised the girl “free and quality” legal representation throughout the hearing in court.
