FULL LIST: States where candidates will retake UTME due to JAMB result errors

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged discrepancies in the results of some candidates who took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and has ordered a resit for those affected.

Out of over 1.9 million candidates who sat for this year’s UTME, about 1.5 million—or 78 percent—scored below 200 out of a possible 400 points. This triggered widespread complaints, with many candidates claiming their scores did not reflect their actual performance.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated that while the general performance aligns with previous years—76 percent scored below 200 in 2024, and 78 percent in 2022—the board took the concerns seriously and initiated a thorough review.

Following the review, JAMB identified technical issues in 157 of the 882 examination centres, particularly in Lagos and the South-East. As a result, 379,997 affected candidates will be required to retake the UTME starting Friday, May 16.

The breakdown shows 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres in the Owerri zone are involved. JAMB says all affected candidates will be directly notified with further instructions.

The six states affected are:

Lagos zone — Lagos State
Owerri zone — it comprises the five South-east states: Abia, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, and Anambra.

A total of 206,610 candidates were affected in the 65 centres within the Lagos zone, while 173,387 candidates were impacted across 92 centres in the Owerri zone.

JAMB has announced that all affected candidates will be contacted through multiple channels, including text messages, emails, profile notifications, and phone calls.

These candidates are also required to reprint their examination slips, which will contain the new dates and venues for the rescheduled exams.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, added that the board has reached an agreement with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) which is currently conducting the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to create space in the timetable for affected candidates to sit the UTME. WAEC has reportedly granted this request.
