Four Police officers arrested for-counting cash inside Patrol vehicle in viral video
The Delta State Police Command has arrested four of its officers who were captured on video counting bundles of cash inside a patrol van, an incident that sparked widespread public outrage.
The viral video, which circulated on social media, showed the officers inside a vehicle marked “Area Command Asaba,” leading many to suspect the money was the result of extortion.
Confirming the arrests on Tuesday, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe, stated that the officers were swiftly identified and apprehended.
They were then summoned to appear before the state Commissioner of Police.
“The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the CP today (Tuesday),” Edafe announced in a post on X.
According to Edafe, disciplinary action has already begun.
The two senior officers involved have been issued queries, while the two inspectors have been detained and are awaiting an “orderly room trial”—a form of internal disciplinary hearing.
Edafe reassured the public that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on the officers once the disciplinary proceedings are finalised, emphasising the force’s commitment to accountability and its internal disciplinary process for erring personnel.
