Former Police Affairs Minister joins Atiku led coalition Party, ADC

A major shake-up has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Adamu Waziri, a founding member and Board of Trustees (BoT) member, announced his resignation on Monday.

The former Minister of Police Affairs declared his departure at the Dogo Tebo ward in Potiskum LGA, Yobe state, citing “exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation.”

Waziri criticized the current PDP leadership, stating, “Let it be known that the current leadership and tone of the party are inconsistent with the leadership of a major party that should offer an alternative platform to its members to exercise their inalienable right and freedom of choice in any electoral contest.”

He immediately announced his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This defection comes amid a growing trend of PDP members switching allegiance to both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ADC. The ADC was recently unveiled last week as a coalition platform by opposition leaders aiming to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections.

Prominent figures reportedly part of this new coalition include former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi, 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, Senator representing Anambra Central Victor Umeh, Senator representing the FCT Ireti Kingibe, and LP vice-presidential candidate in 2023 Akeem Baba-Ahmed
