Former- Super Eagles striker dies after collapsing during football match
Former Super Eagles forward Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing while playing in a local football match in Kaduna.
The 40-year-old was said to have slumped a few minutes into the second half of a friendly game at Ungwan Yelwa before he was later confirmed dead.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced his passing on Friday.
Eneramo made his debut for the Nigerian national team in a goalless friendly against Jamaica in London on February 11, 2009, before opening his international goal account in a 1-1 draw against the Republic of Ireland on May 29, 2009.
He is widely remembered for his crucial contribution during Nigeria’s qualification campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, scoring a decisive late goal in a 2-2 draw against Tunisia.
Over the course of his international career, Eneramo earned 10 caps for the Super Eagles before stepping away from the team in 2011.
Born in Kaduna in 1985, he began his professional career with Lobi Stars in Makurdi, before moving abroad to continue his career in Tunisia and Turkey.
He retired from professional football in 2018.
