Fleeing Boko Haram terrorists, armed bandits regrouping in Kogi State – Governor raises alarm

The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has raised the alarm that some Boko Haram terrorists and bandits, who are on the run from the North-East due to the heavy bombardment by the Nigeria Military on them, were regrouping in Kogi State.

Following intelligence on their activities in Kogi, the Governor urged the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), to establish an Air Force base in the State in order to be prepared to fight the insurgents who are gaining momentum in the state.

It was learnt that Bello’s alarm was informed by a statement made by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao.

Amao in a statement had said “the activities of bandits and other criminal elements, who had relocated to the State after Military operations in September 2020 at Utu Forest situated between Nasarawa and Kogi States forced them out of their comfort zone.”

Speaking further, Governor Bello said that the security situation in some areas has led to the residents of the areas relocating to other parts of the State”.

He said the establishment of a NAF Base in the State would check the activities of bandits as well as facilitate intelligence gathering against criminal elements, who have established safe haven in some parts of the State.
