Four people dead as suspected IPOB militants engage Police operatives in gun battle

Operatives of the tactical unit of Ebonyi State Police Command have killed four gunmen suspected to be members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) during a shootout.

Police spokesman Chris Anyanwu said the suspects were killed during a raid of the suspects’ camp in Umuleje Amaeze, adding that one of the suspects was arrested.

According to Anyanwu, 13 hand grenades suspected to have been made in Russia, among other items, were recovered.

A suspect arrested during an earlier raid of the group’s camp in the state, led the police team to the hoodlums in a forested area, adding that there were many IPOB/ESN camps in the state.

Anyanwu said the village youths in collaboration with the Vigilante apprehended one of the hoodlums and handed him to the police.

He said the police team destroyed the camps of the hoodlums and recovered items they used in unleashing mayhem, including 210 electrical detonators, two Lexus 300 Jeeps, five motorcycles, two pump action guns, many single-barrel guns, ammunition of AK47 and GPNG, and about 30 pieces military uniform, IPOB uniforms, Biafran flag, and six bags of Indian hemp, among others.
