FCT Elections: ADC in early lead in results announced so far by INEC

Early results from four polling units at LEA Primary School, Kubwa II, in Bwari Area Council show the African Democratic Congress (ADC) holding a slim lead in the chairmanship race, amid poor voter turnout and isolated reports of vote buying.

Figures announced by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) indicate a closely contested battle between the ADC and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, cumulative results from the four units give the ADC an early advantage.

Across the polling centre, which has 4,063 registered voters, only 181 people were accredited and cast their ballots a turnout widely described by observers as alarmingly low.

Results show that the ADC – 67 votes, APC – 40 votes, ZLP – 21 votes, APGA – 20 votes, while other parties trailed behind.

This is how the parties performed in each of the units: Unit 044
Out of 755 registered voters, only 32 were accredited.
* Chairmanship: ADC (20), APC (7), APGA (3), Accord (1), PDP (1)
* Councillorship: ADC (14), APC (4), PDP (4), APGA (3), ZLP (3), YPP (2), SDP (1), Accord (1)
Unit 045
From 747 registered voters, 34 turned out.
* Chairmanship: ADC (13), APC (11), ZLP (3), APGA (3), PDP (2), Accord (1), Action Alliance (1)
* Councillorship: APC (10), ADC (10), ZLP (5), PDP (4), APGA (2), YPP (2), Accord (1)
Unit 047
* Chairmanship: ADC (15), ZLP (5), APGA (4), APC (2), PDP (2), SDP (2), with 2 invalid votes
* Councillorship: ADC (12), ZLP (10), APGA (4), PDP (3), YPP (1), APC (0), with 2 invalid votes
Unit 006
Despite having the largest register of 1,805 voters, only 83 were accredited.

Chairmanship: APC (20), ADC (19), ZLP (13), APGA (10), PDP (8), Accord (5), SDP (2), ADP (1)

Councillorship: APC (20), ZLP (16), YPP (12), APGA (9), ADC (8), Accord (6), SDP (1), ADP (1), with 1 invalid vote

The low participation rate came despite reported mobilisation efforts linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Observers described the turnout as one of the weakest in recent elections within the area.

The exercise also experienced a technical setback when a BVAS device ran out of battery power mid-process.

Voters reportedly provided personal power banks to enable officials continue accreditation and voting.

While the ADC currently leads in the early chairmanship count at the Kubwa II centre, the narrow margins and broader voter apathy underscore a race shaped as much by turnout as by party strength.
