Father accused of defiling his biological eight-year-old Daughter

The family court in Ondo has ordered the detention of Mufutau Taiwo, a 35-year-old herb seller, accused of raping his eight-year-old daughter.

Taiwo faces a charge of rape under Section 25(a) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law of 2021, following his arrest on June 18 after a report was filed at the anti-kidnapping unit in Alagbaka.

According to Martins Olowofeso, the police prosecutor, Taiwo and his wife fled to Osun State after the incident to obtain a fabricated doctor’s report claiming no harm to the girl. However, subsequent tests conducted in Akure revealed signs of penetration and injury, corroborating the allegations.

During interrogation, Taiwo reportedly confessed to the crime. Despite this, he did not enter a plea due to the gravity of the offence.

Olowofeso requested the court to remand Taiwo in the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

In response, G.O. Omoedu, Taiwo’s counsel, asked for time to prepare a legal response to the remand application.

Magistrate B.A. Alipohul ordered Taiwo to be remanded in police custody and adjourned the case until July 4 for further proceedings.
