Ekiti Gov elect meets President Buhari in Aso Rock, reacts to vote buying allegation

Speculation of vote-buying by APC, imagination of opposition class – Ekiti Governor-Elect, Oyebanji

Biodun Oyebanji, the winner of last Saturday’s Ekiti State governorship election, has dismissed claims that his party, the All Progressive Congress, aided him in his victory through vote-buying.

Oyebanji claimed that neither he nor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were involved in the alleged vote-buying scheme during the election.

On Monday, after the party’s leadership presented him to President Muhammadu Buhari as the election winner and governor-elect of the state, Oyebanji spoke to State House Correspondents.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the APC Chairman, led the group to the Presidential Villa.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and governor of Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi; Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) and governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu; governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Badaru; and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, who was also governor of Ekiti State between 1999 to 2003 were the other members of the team who accompanied the governor-ekect to the villa.

In response to allegations of vote-buying during the election that ushered him in as governor-elect, Oyebanji stated that his victory was a result of the APC-led administration’s sterling performance in the state, as well as the fact that he campaigned effectively and presented a reasonable manifesto to the people of the state, and that neither he nor the party bought any votes.

The National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu, while supporting and vouching for Oyebanji said such allegation of vote-buying may be the opposition class handiwork who are angry for losing out at the election.
