Don’t bribe Policemen even under intimidation —IGP to Nigerians, asks officers to be awarded for recognition when they display acts of integrity

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has advised Nigerians to resist giving money or property to police officers, even under intimidation.

Speaking at a meeting with key officers responsible for internal control at the force headquarters in Abuja, Egbetokun emphasised his commitment to restoring public trust in the police.

He urged swift justice for errant officers and the enforcement of measures to curb unprofessional conduct within the force.

Egbetokun said: “Over the years, we have observed that the conduct of some personnel significantly deviated from the expectations of the force leadership.

“Officers who are supposed to uphold the value of integrity and upon whom society places high moral expectations are frequently seen breaching the trust placed in them by the public.

“At this junction, I want to emphasize that while we continue to implement internal measures to curb acts of extortion and other vices, the citizens must join hands with us.

“I urge the public never to succumb to intimidation or part with their hard-earned money or properties unjustly.”

The police chief encouraged Nigerians to report any misconduct by police officers to the relevant authorities.

He also instructed senior officers to recommend personnel for recognition when they display acts of bravery, integrity, and compassion.
