Angry Residents kill two suspected armed robbers after attack
Two suspected armed robbers were killed by irate villagers after allegedly attacking two teenage herders and stealing their flock of sheep in the Charimeleri bush area of Gubio Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on May 21, 2025, according to a post shared Friday by counter-insurgency expert and security analyst Zagazola Makama on his verified X account.
The attackers, who were reportedly armed with machetes, knives, and bows and arrows, ambushed the herders — Abdu Ali and Abba Ali — while they were grazing 25 sheep.
The suspects seized the livestock and fled the scene, but the boys managed to escape and alert their father, Bukar Umara.
Umara quickly mobilized other villagers, and together they tracked the robbers using their footprints. They eventually caught up with the suspects and recovered the stolen animals.
A confrontation broke out, during which one of the assailants allegedly stabbed a villager, Fannami Bukar, in the chest. The villagers responded with force, overpowering and fatally injuring both robbers.
Security operatives later arrived, documented the scene, and recovered weapons, including a bow and arrow, a sheath knife, and head veils believed to have belonged to the assailants.
The wounded suspects were taken to Gubio General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
The injured villager is currently receiving treatment at the Gubio Primary Health Care Centre and is said to be responding well.
