Crisis in APC as Buhari, 13 Northern APC Govs reject Lawan as consensus candidate

13 Northern Governors elected on the All Progressive Congress (APC) platform have disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari does not have a favored candidate in the party primary election that began today in Abuja.

This discovery came shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari met with certain governors at the State House in Abuja.

After the meeting, Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong told State House Correspondents that the northern governors agreed that power should be transferred to the south.

They are also scheduled to meet with the party’s National Working Committee at 5 p.m. today.


In his effort to have a harmonised position prior to the convention, the President will meet the APC governors from the north.

The governors in attendance are the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, chairman of the Northern governors Forum and governor of Plateau State, Simeon Lalong, Abubakar Baduru (Jigawa) and Babagana Zulum (Borno).

Others are Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Bello Matawale (Zamfara), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Yahaya Inuwa (Gombe), Abubakar Bello (Niger), and the Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni.
