Coalition; Setback for PDP, LP over News coming out of National Assembly

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) faced fresh political blows on Wednesday following the defection of two members of the House of Representatives Okolie Lawrence and Akingbaso Olanrewaju, who dumped their parties for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Okolie, who represents the Aniocha North/Aniocha South/Oshimili North/Oshimili South Federal Constituency in Delta State, resigned from the LP, stating that his move to the APC would help deliver better governance to his constituents.

Similarly, Akingbaso, the representative for Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in Ondo State, left the PDP, citing unresolved internal conflicts within the party.

He said his defection was in line with his belief in the APC’s ideology and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

However, the announcement drew swift objection from Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, who raised a point of order, insisting that the PDP was not experiencing any crisis that would justify the defection.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas acknowledged the protest but proceeded with legislative proceedings.

These defections add to a growing wave of lawmakers crossing over to the APC in recent months, further solidifying the party’s dominance in the House of Representatives and stirring anxiety among opposition parties.

Similar shifts are also being witnessed in the Senate, as well as among governors and other high-ranking politicians.
