Sowore accompanies Corps Member facing backlash after viral video criticising Tinubu

Human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has publicly expressed his support for Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who sparked controversy with a viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a video posted on X on Monday, Sowore revealed that he had met with Uguamaye in Lagos and offered his assistance.

He further announced plans to accompany her to the NYSC Local Government Inspector’s office, where she is expected to address the matter, alongside a team of attorneys.

“The journey with youth Corper, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, has commenced in Lagos.

“She is scheduled to appear before the LGI (Local Government Inspector) today and we will escort her to their offices. We are all en route with attorneys,” Sowore captioned the video.

Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, recently went viral after posting a TikTok video in which she voiced her frustrations over Nigeria’s deteriorating economic conditions and openly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Following the video’s release, Uguamaye claimed she received threats in response to her comments, igniting a national debate on free speech and political dissent in Nigeria.

She also posted a screenshot of an official invitation from the NYSC, requesting her to appear before the Local Government Inspector’s office at Eti Osa 3 on Monday at 10:00 a.m.

The situation gained further attention when Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate, publicly expressed his support for Uguamaye.

In a video shared on X, Sowore revealed that he had met with Uguamaye in Lagos and would accompany her to the NYSC office, accompanied by a team of lawyers, to address the matter.

As of now, the NYSC has yet to issue an official statement regarding the case.
