BREAKING: Ex-Gov Amosun speaks on what transpired in negotiations that got Presidential jets seized
Senator Ibikunle Amosun, former governor of Ogun State, has weighed in on the ongoing media coverage surrounding the management dispute of the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone (OGFTZ).
Amosun characterised the conflict as essentially a “Chinese against Chinese dispute,” highlighting the complex nature of the disagreement.
His statement was shared on August 17, 2024, through Onanuga’s X handle.
The dispute began shortly after the new administration took office on May 29, 2011, and involves two Chinese companies: China Africa Investment FXE and Zhongfu International Investment FXE. Both companies are vying for control over OGFTZ, leading to significant disruptions in business operations and concerns about public order within the zone and its environs.
The crux of the issue centers on determining which company rightfully represents Guangdong Province, China, and thus holds legitimate management authority over the zone.
Initially, Zhongfu International Investment FXE made serious allegations against China Africa Investment FXE, which resulted in Zhongfu being appointed as the interim manager of the zone on March 15, 2012, pending further assessment of the claims.
