BREAKING: ADC announces Atikus running mate ahead of 2027 presidential election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, following extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, and representatives from across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
According to the party, Amaechi’s nomination followed the conclusion of its presidential primary election, where he emerged as the runner-up and received significant support from members nationwide.
The ADC said Amaechi would run alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing the pairing as a combination of experience, national reach, and leadership capacity ahead of the 2027 polls.
In the statement, the party described the alliance as “the coming together of two tested statesmen” with the capacity to confront Nigeria’s economic, security, and governance challenges.
The ADC highlighted Amaechi’s political background, noting that he previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
It added that his experience across both legislative and executive positions would be an asset to the party’s campaign and a future administration.
The party also said Amaechi’s political influence in the South-South and other parts of Southern Nigeria, as well as his reputation as a reform-minded administrator and coalition builder, would strengthen its electoral chances.
“The combined experience of Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi in governance, economic management, public administration, and party organisation offers Nigerians a credible alternative capable of restoring confidence in government and accelerating national development,” the statement said.
The ADC added that the ticket reflects its broader agenda of national unity, economic recovery, job creation, and improved security, while positioning the party as a viable alternative ahead of the elections.
It urged party members, coalition partners, civil society organisations, youth and women groups, and other Nigerians to support its campaign efforts as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
