BREAKING; Police summons Emir Sanusi for questioning over violent incident during Eid celebration
The Inspector General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, has officially invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to an investigative meeting at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja regarding a violent incident that occurred during the recent Eid-el-Fitr Sallah celebration in the city.
The incident, which took place within the Emir’s domain, resulted in the reported death of vigilante member Surajo Rabiu and left another, Aminu Suleman, injured.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, and the invitation to Sanusi is part of their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the event.
A letter addressed to the Emir confirmed his invitation, which was issued on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (FID) by Commissioner of Police (OPS), CP Olajide Ibitoye.
The letter reads, “In line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Department, you are invited for an investigative meeting regarding the incident that took place during the Sallah celebration within your domain.”
Sanusi has been requested to appear at the Force Intelligence Department, located opposite the Police Force Headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, for the meeting, which is essential for the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, in connection with the incident, Kano police operatives have arrested one Usman Sagiru in relation to the alleged killing of Surajo Rabiu. The violent attack also injured Aminu Suleman, who was swiftly taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.
According to Kano police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, the incident occurred while local vigilante guards were providing protection for the Emir’s entourage on their return from the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground after observing the two rakat Eid-el-Fitr prayers.
