Breakaway APC faction approaches INEC for Registration as new Political Party
Team New Nigeria (TNN), a faction that broke away from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has revealed its intention to register as an independent political party with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The group, led by National Leader Modibbo Farakwai, criticised the current APC administration for its failure to address Nigeria’s growing insecurity, economic challenges, and widespread poverty.
Farakwai expressed deep dissatisfaction with the neglect of TNN members despite their pivotal role in APC’s electoral victories. TNN’s mission is to galvanize Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones to challenge APC’s dominance in the upcoming 2027 elections.
At the same time, the Obidient Movement in Delta State gathered in Asaba over the weekend, strategizing for the 2027 elections with the aim of ousting the APC. The gathering featured key figures like Prof. Pat Utomi and Prof. Chris Nwaokobia, who stressed the need for a unified movement to overcome the failures of the current government.
Nwaokobia called for greater mobilization, asserting that the government had failed on all fronts, from economic mismanagement to worsening public discontent. Meanwhile, Delta Obidient Elders Council Chairman, Chief Chris Biose, highlighted the nation’s paradox of abundant resources and widespread poverty.
In a parallel development, a new initiative to improve transparency in Nigeria’s political landscape was introduced with the unveiling of the Political Party Performance Index (PPPI).
Created by Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) in partnership with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), the PPPI aims to evaluate political parties based on their inclusivity, legal compliance, and public outreach.
This index, inspired by international standards like Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, seeks to tackle issues such as godfatherism, money politics, and electoral law violations.
The initiative also intends to empower citizens to actively engage in the political process, fostering greater accountability and inclusivity within Nigeria’s political parties.
