Atiku’s camp issues Statement over reports ex-VP has withdrawn from presidential race to support Obi

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s camp has dismissed claims circulating online that he has withdrawn from the 2027 presidential race.

The viral report alleged that Atiku had decided not to seek the presidency again and had instead pledged his support to his political associate, Peter Obi, for a single-term bid in the next general election.

Reacting to the claim, Atiku’s Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, categorically denied the story, describing it as untrue.

He stressed that the former vice president has neither stepped aside from the 2027 contest nor endorsed any other aspirant.

Posting a screenshot of the report on social media, Ibe bluntly labelled it misinformation, writing, “Fake news: Not on the menu!”

This is not the first time Atiku has been forced to address speculation about his political plans.

Similar reports surfaced in October after he was quoted by the BBC Hausa Service as saying he would make way for another presidential hopeful ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, his media team later clarified that the comments had been taken out of context, reaffirming that Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, remains intent on contesting again in 2027.
