President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors to Nigerian diplomatic missions across the world, nearly three months after the Senate confirmed their nominations.

The approval was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the postings involve both career and non-career diplomats.

According to the statement, the list comprises 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career ambassadors whose nominations were earlier cleared by the Nigerian Senate in December.

Among the prominent appointments, former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been posted to Spain, while former Minister of Health, Isaac Folorunso Adewole, will represent Nigeria in Canada.

Former Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, has been assigned to China, while retired military intelligence chief, Lateef Kayode Are, will head Nigeria’s mission to the United States.

In another notable posting, businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim has been appointed as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The statement also revealed that former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been posted to Mexico, while former senator Ita Enang will serve as Nigeria’s envoy to South Africa.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun diplomatic processes required for the deployment of the envoys.

According to the presidency, the United Kingdom has already granted agrément for Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has approved the posting of Ambassador Ayo Oke.

The ministry has also forwarded the nominations of other ambassadors-designate to their respective host countries to secure diplomatic consent in line with international protocol.

President Tinubu further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence the induction programme for the ambassadors and high commissioners ahead of their formal assumption of duty.
