Come out and Welcome Prez8dent Tinubu during his visit – Governor tells Residents

As Plateau State prepares to receive President Bola Tinubu this Saturday, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called on residents to come out in large numbers to extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome to the President.

Tinubu is scheduled to visit the state to attend the funeral of the late mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Governor Mutfwang made the appeal on Friday while addressing participants at the Distinguished Alumni Lecture hosted by the University of Jos.

The lecture was delivered by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and titled “The Nigerian Justice System in a Digital Age: Opportunities, Challenges and the Road Ahead.”

The event brought together prominent figures from both the legal and academic communities.

Speaking on the upcoming presidential visit, Mutfwang expressed confidence in the hospitality of Plateau citizens.

“Tomorrow, we will welcome Mr. President to Jos, as he comes to pay his respects to our late mother — the mother of my dear brother and APC National Chairman,” he said.

“I trust that the good people of Plateau will offer him a heartfelt and memorable reception. His visit is a chance for him to see firsthand the warmth and resilience of our people.”

The governor emphasised the importance of unity, peace, and collective progress, noting that Plateau’s rich natural and human resources remain underutilized due to internal divisions.

“We cannot afford to continue undermining one another,” Mutfwang said.

“To reach our full potential, we must embrace brotherhood and cooperation. Plateau is a blessed land, and it’s time we worked together to elevate it to the position of honour it deserves.”

He also praised the Attorney General for delivering a timely and insightful lecture on the evolving landscape of justice in Nigeria.

Fagbemi highlighted the growing impact of digital tools in legal proceedings, stressing the need for deliberate and inclusive adoption of technology across the judiciary.

Fagbemi pointed out that the shift towards digital practices gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw the introduction of virtual court sessions through directives from the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

While some states have moved forward with innovations like e-filing and digital cause lists, others remain reliant on traditional paper-based processes.

“Technology is no longer optional in the justice sector—it is essential,” the Minister said.

“However, we must tailor our digital transformation to align with the fundamental values of our justice system. Nigeria must adopt technology wisely, not blindly.”
