Senator; Buhari never honoured anyone in his lifetime the way President honoured him

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has remarked that throughout his lifetime, late President Muhammadu Buhari never gave anyone the level of honour and recognition that President Bola Tinubu has bestowed upon him.

Tinubu’s tribute to Buhari Unprecedented

President Tinubu has undertaken a series of unprecedented gestures to honor his predecessor since Buhari’s passing on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

These include the declaration of a public holiday on the day of Buhari’s burial, personally attending the internment in Daura, meeting with the bereaved family, and holding a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in his honor.

Further cementing the recognition, President Tinubu also renamed a federal institution after the late Nigerian leader, among other acknowledgments.

In a post on his X handle, Sani described these actions as “unprecedented and deserving of acknowledgment,” highlighting the profound respect shown by the current administration.

“The President physically attended the burial of Buhari, met with his family, declared a public holiday, held a FEC meeting in his honor and renamed a university to immortalise him.

“Something even the late President never did to others. And yet they said he is ‘exploiting the death of Buhari’.

“What would they have said if he had done none of the above? Politics is something else,” the senator tweeted.

Sani’s remark came amidst growing political commentary over the conduct of the Tinubu administration in the aftermath of Buhari’s passing, particularly from sections of the opposition.
