JUST IN; Governor blasts sacked SSG, says he’s mentally unstable

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has strongly rebuked the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, following allegations of corruption leveled against his administration, particularly the claim that N2 billion in monthly allocations was being funneled to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Describing Bichi’s claims as outrageous and unfounded, Governor Yusuf questioned the former official’s mental state.

“I believe Baffa Bichi is mentally unstable. If he were in his right senses, he wouldn’t be making such baseless and reckless accusations against our administration,” the governor said during his address at a meeting with the state’s 444 ward councillors on Sunday.

Yusuf expressed regret over Bichi’s appointment, noting that it was made despite resistance from Islamic scholars and various stakeholders.

“We appointed him as SSG even though respected Ulamas and community leaders warned us. Sadly, he has repaid that trust with betrayal and falsehood,” Yusuf said.

He also accused Bichi of attempting to tarnish the reputation of Kwankwaso, who he described as a statesman with an unblemished public service record.

“Kwankwaso is a man who has risen through the ranks—from a federal minister of defence to a two-term governor and senator. There is no evidence anywhere of him misusing public funds,” he said.

In a dramatic escalation, the governor threatened to revoke Bichi’s recognition as a legitimate indigene of Kano State, citing his continued attacks on respected figures in the state.

“His actions are not just against our administration but also disrespectful to our religious, political, and traditional institutions. We are considering striking his name from Kano’s list of true sons,” Yusuf declared.

The governor also issued a stern warning to media houses, especially local radio stations, cautioning them against giving airtime to Bichi or anyone spreading false accusations.

“Any media outlet that gives platform to such baseless allegations risks legal action. We will not tolerate the continued defamation of our leaders,” he warned.

Addressing the ward councillors, Governor Yusuf urged them to be proactive in addressing the needs of their constituents, stressing the importance of their roles in grassroots development.
