Governor orders security agencies to arrest Residents with dreadlocks
Niger State Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago has ordered the immediate arrest of anyone found wearing dreadlocks within the state, as part of a broader crackdown on suspected criminal activity.
The governor also directed security agencies to treat anyone caught with illegal firearms as an armed robber.
The directive was issued during a high-level security meeting held in Minna, the state capital, and was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media platform X.
Governor Bago said the measures are aimed at enhancing public safety and flushing out criminal elements believed to be disguising themselves within the population.
In the now-viral video, Bago was heard saying: “Anybody that you find with dreadlock, arrest him, barb his hair and fine him.
“Nobody should carry any kind of haircut again inside here. I have given you marching order, the security agencies, any boy, anybody you find with a weapon, deal with him as an armed robber.
“So for parents, warn your children, warn your wards.
“From this moment, it’s 100% fire for fire. Any attempt to harass any security officer is an attempt to harass the government of Niger State. We are going to come with the full force of power of the government and descend on you. And any house found harboring criminals should be demolished.”
